Living in vast and sun-burnt Australia, it's hard not to let the place effect you in some way.

In a country that's almost 8 million square kilometers, only 1% of which makes up a water feature, and where the population density is something like 2.6 people per square kilometers, you learn to love the vastness of the place, with long, open, dusty stretches where you can drive all day before you meet anyone; where, if you want to get away from it all, you can; there's nothing like the sound of kookaburra's at dawn; the smell of eucalypt at dusk; no other place in the world is like this place.
